What Are Hand-Tied Extensions?

We get asked a lot if we offer “hand-tied” extensions and I thought I would take a moment to explain what that really means, what a lot of people think it means, and why we do what we do here at Crown Salon. ⠀⠀⠀⠀

What most people think “hand-tied” is: The method where your stylist takes a whole track of hair and attaches it using a row of beads to your natural hair. This creates a clip-in extension type look which gives you tons of volume and fullness right away. It gets it’s name because you “hand-tie” the extensions to the hair using a needle and thread. ⠀⠀⠀

What it is really is: “Hand-tied” only refers to the TYPE of hair weft used, NOT the method. There are a lot of hair extension brands out there that make wefts using hair that is literally tied by hand to the weft. This makes it super, super light. So a lot of women who could not have this method before because their hair was too thin are now told that they can have “hand-tied” wefts. There are certain advantages to wearing a hand-tied weft because some extensions foundations require this type of weft for example. So while it is not something we currently offer, as we explore more new options for extensions we may begin adding hand-tied to our suite of services.

Why we use Machine-Tied Wefts:
Strength, durability and fullness. While we have nothing against hand-tied wefts, but because we offer 5 different types of extensions we find there are tons of better options out there for women with fine hair than a weft for the time being. We love to use machine-tied wefts for our weft extensions because machine-tied wefts are thick, strong and give TONS of fullness to already thick hair.

Waterfall Beaded Row Extensions: This is our owner, Jenna’s, favorite method to wear because she already has thick hair she just likes to have the extra length. Instead of having multiple rows of extensions in an individual method women who wear a beaded weft can enjoy just a few rows but have the look of wearing a full head of clip-in extensions with a lot more wearability and comfort. We use the waterfall beaded row foundation that lasts 5-8 weeks with no slipping, combined with the fullness and strength of Bellami’s machine-tied weft extensions for a thick, full look. ⠀⠀⠀
